Charlotte Ramsey goes to London for her first season, faced with the challenges set by the haute ton she meets Lady Margaret Avery, a beautiful widow who offers her a chance of a lifetime.
This all explodes in her face when the commission of the widow becomes an object of controversy. Banished to the country side she bides her time until her niece is of an age to forcing Charlotte to return to London where she has to face her past and resolve to resolve the tension between her and the earl of Burford - the controversy himself.

Charlotte knew the crowd had dismissed her, but she was never one to refuse a challenge, she shot her arrow, it went into a curve before hitting the target slicing Burford’s arrow in two.
The crowd stood transfixed gasping in shock.

She pinched her nose and motioned for him to leave the room. He looked baffled for a minute before following her request. As he stepped out the bedroom door, he was greeted by Simon who gave him a mocking smile. “I was about to tell you that you were a sight for sore eyes, and you smell like pig excrement.”
